The existing 'Care Certificate' is an induction framework designed to give new workers a thorough and robust induction to care. Where as the NEW Care Certificate is actually a 'level 2 certificate in Adult Social Care'.
Does this replace the existing 'Care Certificate'?
No, The existing 'Care Certificate' is still there and there are no plans to remove or replace it. The requirement to provide new workers a thorough and robust induction remains. Will the NEW Care Certificate be mandatory?
No, there is no mandatory requirement for Care providers to provide the New 'Level 2 Certificate in Adult Social Care'.
What does this mean for the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care?
The Level 2 Diploma is a higher level qualification than the level 2 Certificate. The Certificate does not replace the Diploma and the Diploma will continue to be available.
Is the Level 2 Certificate funded?
There is funding available for the Level 2 certificate until 31st March 2025. This will be administered through the 'department of health and social care' instead of 'Skills for Care'. Further information can be found here.
Why is this so confusing?!
Introducing a new qualification with such a similar name has created a great amount of confusion within the sector. The reality is the the existing 'Care Certificate' and the New 'Level 2 certificate in Health and Social Care' are distinct and different achievements. The sector wanted a new qualification that was easier to achieve that the level 2 diploma and a recognised qualification. The New 'Level 2 Certificate' introduces new options and pathways to those working in the sector.
